ANNOUNCEMENT OF

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING ADVISORY BOARD

TEACHER REPRESENTATIVE POSITIONS

The Poway Federation of Teachers is seeking applicants for the Professional Learning Advisory Board (PLAB) Teacher Representative position for the 2019-20, 2020-21, and 2021-22 school years.

Teacher candidates are interviewed and selected in the spring to form a pool of potential PLAB Teacher Representatives, who remain in the pool for up to three years.   Candidates will be selected from the pool as positions become available (e.g. vacancies for the following school year; if a replacement is necessary mid-cycle) but cannot be guaranteed a position.

Representatives serve for a three-year term, * and may apply and interview for an additional term.  Whenever possible, an attempt will be made to stagger the representatives to ensure that no more than half of the teacher representatives roll off in a given year.  This may necessitate some members serving longer than three years.

For 2019-20, we have one open position for PLAB Teacher Representative.  Availability of other open positions will depend upon which of the current Board members remain, based on re-application and interview.  (One of our current Reps is eligible to re-apply and interview).  The application, interview, and selection process will be completed in early June. Interviews are tentatively scheduled for Monday, June 3rd, 2019.  (Job description attached).

WHAT IS THE PROFESSIONAL LEARNING ADVISORY BOARD (PLAB)?

The Professional Learning Advisory Board is a PFT/PUSD joint collaborative whose purpose is to coordinate professional learning opportunities for PFT unit members and make recommendations to the Superintendent on professional learning issues.  The Board also serves as the Governing Board of the Teaching and Learning Cooperative (TLC).  The PLAB Board is comprised of six PFT members (five teacher representatives and one PFT staff) and four district members (two principals and two LSS staff).  PLAB Teacher Representatives are compensated on the Teacher Leadership Salary Schedule IV (attached). *

WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED TO BE A PLAB TEACHER REPRESENTATIVE?

The PLAB Teacher Representative must be tenured, with a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in PUSD.

INTERESTED?

Please notify Kris Hizal of your interest via email, khizal@powayteachers.org, or phone, 674-2800. Application, PFT Rep Recommendation, and Principal Recommendation (attached) must be received by the PFT Office on or before Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 4:00 p.m.

*Despite the three-year cycle, this position is ultimately a year-to-year assignment based on needs and/or budget.  Each year, PLAB Teacher Reps must receive an offer of employment (schedule IV) from PSS.
